This Duskwalker was probably my favorite of the series with his sweet, perceptive nature and quiet strength. One place where he was always in charge, always dominant was in the proverbial bedroom, where a fierce and sexually confident Mayumi submitted to him completely. And thank goodness for that balance since Mayumi could at times be bossy and come across uncaring. As the characters evolved with their familiarity and understanding of backgrounds, their mutual feelings blossomed to infinite, palpable caring and warmth.Oh, this book was so adventurously spicy!And besides the fireworks, I loved this couple's fun times together: the boardgames, the chores, the snowball fights. From laughs to bittersweet devotion, this couple shared a connection. I was moved to tears.... Each will do the ultimate to be with their cherished one, even if they don't have the love words.Lengthy as is this author’s style, some world building with lots of day to day living and discovery, the story was a bit more progressive in pace than the other two books. It was written in third person point of view that depicted the world and well-showcased the main characters’ thoughts. A fantasy world come to life. His dedication to this mystery woman we hadn't met yet and knew nothing about was adorable and completely why I fell in love with this series in the first place. Knowing he has a limited amount of time left thanks to the Demon King, he decides he's going to protect Mayumi while staying hidden and unnoticed. Unfortunately for our Mavka, she's a demonslayer and notices him pretty quickly.Opal really took the spice up a notch this book. As soon as I read the content warnings, I was all in. Having a FMC who was DTF right away and unapologetic about getting what she wants was so refreshing! This series lets you know from the jump that it's about monster romance, but having the main character in this book proudly admit it and go out of her way to seduce the monster was everything I could've wanted!The Duskwalker universe expanded this book with introducing more characters and places. We also got some more lore. No spoilers here, but y'all. I need a Witch Owl book more than ever now, please! Also, I've gotta shout out the phenomenal Asian representation we got in this book. I love that Opal sought out sensitivity readers. There was also an excellent piece of foreshadowing with a bit of Japanese culture that lead right into the climax of the book.If I could give this book more than 5 stars, I would. Everything about it was excellent. If you haven't preordered it yet, go do so! Maybe add some tissues to your order also if you form attachments with fictional characters like I do. Mayumi is a savvy, grumpy, stubborn, high ranked demon slayer. She's very different from the previous two heroines, which means that her romance goes differently from the first two books. Mayumi and Faunus are flawed and felt like more full characters than we've seen before in this series.SPOILERS: Faunus is pretty cool and much more fun and modern than the previous MMCs. I loved the cameo of Orpheus and Magnus - yay! We meet the Mavka's father in this book, but their mother doesn't make an appearance. There are major revelations about the world in this book that make me hope for a human-Mavka alliance against Jabez and his bad demons. I hope that I'm guessing correctly about the future direction of the series. Nevertheless, I loved this book and I'm going to have to re-read A Soul to Keep to determine if I like Orpheus more than Faunus.And this series is totally great for furries & monster eggplant SFM fans. Opal Reyne shows us pain, heartache, and loss but also romance, love, and fighting for the people you care about. Kitty is a character that came into play in book 2 of this series. I was worried to see how his life would continue after learning information about him in the second book. Mayumi is a badass demon slayer that Kitty has watched over the years after meeting one time I in the forest when she was a child. Mayumi is so careless and reckless it made me laugh at all the things she put Kitty through. I was so glad to read an HEA because these characters went through a rough experience to be together. Also, the smut in this book was so much more than the first two books and I was here for it. I cannot wait for the next book in this series and I hope the Mavkas can come together and defeat the Demon King because he just keeps becoming more of a problem in each book.
